Innovative learning

Research informed teaching is fundamental to the student learning experience at Liverpool Hope University. Our students are encouraged to become active enquirers and explore their specialisms through immersive learning.

The i3 Building is the latest investment at our Hope Park campus, and features a simulation lab equipped with virtual reality software.

State-of-the-art Sport, Health and Sports Science facilities

Our Health Sciences facilities allow for complete metabolic, psychological, nutritional, bioscientific, respiratory, biomechanical, and cardiovascular assessment of function in elite athletes and patient populations.

The Health Science Building houses numerous sport and exercise laboratories and facilities including:

  • A 25-metre sprint track with force platforms and motion capture for biomechanical analysis
  • A phlebotomy laboratory for blood sampling
  • Two large teaching laboratories with facilities for cardiorespiratory and metabolic analysis of human function during exercise
  • A Dualenergy X-ray Absorptiometry scanner for assessing bone and muscle health
  • A cardiovascular assessment suite with cardiac and vascular ultrasound
  • A high-performance physiology laboratory that allows for breath-by-breath respiratory analysis, and near-infrared spectroscopy, which allows for assessment of muscular oxygen uptake and utilisation
  • Dedicated psychology laboratories for teaching and research include three-dimensional motion capture, eye tracking, and neuro-behaviour suites
  • There is also space for research synergies between psychology and sport departments
  • Two large bioscience laboratories available in addition to a suite of dedicated research laboratories for the study of molecular biology, microbiology, cell biology, genetics, and bioinformatics
  • A purpose-built food laboratory for the development of food products and analysis of their properties
  • A sensory analysis suite constructed to industry-standards to enable consumer testing
  • A dedicated nutrition laboratory containing equipment to enable the measurement of body composition, energy expenditure, vascular health, and a wide range of clinical biomarkers

Our libraries

The Sheppard-Worlock and Creative Campus Libraries, along with other learning spaces across the campuses, are hives of activity for individual and group study.

The Sheppard-Worlock Library at Hope Park provides a beautiful setting to study, and contains a core print collection of more than 350,000 items, alongside a print journal archive and subject-specific collections.

There has been investment in full text online resources including e-journals, e-books and databases, most of which can be accessed both on and off campus. A team of dedicated Subject Librarians can provide training and support to help you make the most of these resources.

Plas Caerdeon

The University owns Plas Caerdeon Outdoor Education Centre in Snowdonia.

The 80-bed centre offers a wide range of residential courses. As part of your studies, you may visit for field trips, environment and biological research excursions, or art workshops. The Centre also delivers team building courses, often including mountaineering and kayaking.

A centre for research and learning

Liverpool Hope places great emphasis on bringing together research excellence and top-quality teaching, facilitated by a community of academics and scholars who are of the highest calibre, with experts recruited from around the world.

In the national Research Excellence Framework (REF), more than 61 percent of research produced at Liverpool Hope was rated as world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*) – based on the latest REF results in 2021.

This research excellence informs our teaching and helps to develop rounded and employable graduates.

The University has a number of research centres. These include, but are by no means limited to:

  • Archbishop Desmond Tutu Centre for War and Peace Studies
  • Social and Applied Psychology
  • Centre for Education and Policy Analysis (CEPA)
  • Centre for Culture and Disability Studies (CCDS)
  • The University has recently made significant and strategic investment in its research environment in the form of the Vice-Chancellor’s doctoral scholarships, and has recruited high-calibre students to pursue PhD studies.
